Ndombolo from the Democratic Republic of the Congo



FLAMME KAPAYA
Flamme Kapaya is one of the best solo guitarists of his generation who works in Kinshasa and Paris. Starting in 1997, he played guitar in the well known Ndombolo Band Maison Mère from singer Werrason. Ndombolo has developed out of the congolese Soukous Sound, also known as African Rhumba, which exists in congo since the 30ies. Ndombolo is more danceable and faster, which led to bans from government and radio because of its „obscenity“. Flamme Kapaya is famous all over Congo and he is now one of the biggest stars in the Ndombolo Scene. Since 2007 he also works with the congolese dancer and choreographer Faustin Linyekula. Together with Drummer Patou and bassplayer Remi he will perform his many congolese hits and will rock his signature double-neck Gibson guitar.
