Requirements for a Technology-Based African Development (Language: English)Considering a sample of technology-based (development) projects for Africa, the lecturer will provide a general critical analysis of the adequacy of these in terms of resource availability, expected outcome and prospect for sustainability. From the analysis, a map of requirements for a technology-based development in Africa will be drawn. Finally, possible strategies to comply with the devised requirements will be proposed.Mathias CyamukunguDr. M. Cyamukungu (UCL/CSR) was born in Rwanda in 1961. In 1980, he was awarded a scholarship by Belgium and studied Physics at Université Catholique de Louvain (UCL). Upon completion of his PhD, he was Assistant Professor at UCL and in Rwanda working for a Belgium/Rwanda cooperation project aimed at the implementation of an Instrumentation laboratory at the University of Rwanda. In 1997, Dr. Cyamukungu’s research activities intensified to the detriment of teaching as he started to work on ESA (European Space Agence) projects where his expertise in radiation detection instrumentation was requested. More specifically, he was in charge of space radiation data analysis, space instrument design and training of graduate/post-graduate students for radiation detection-related theses. He is actually Research Coordinator for Instrumentation and Data Analysis at the UCL – Center for Space Radiations (CSR).
