Natural Resources in Africa: Perspectives and Prospects for the Continent (Language: English)Many African countries have major natural resources like gold, diamonds, petrol, copper or coltan. Unfortunately most of these countries are either dominated by violent conflicts or they find themselves in a challenging tansition period after the end of war. If those natural resources were used in a responsible way, they could function as mainspring for economic growth and reconstruction. They could provide opportunities to enhance the wealth of the population. But the reality shows that this is a very ambitious and often a so far unreached aim. Augustin KarasangaboDI Dr. Augustin Karasangabo, born 1963 in Rwanda, is montanist and research associate at the Montan University in Leoben, Austria. He has a five years experience in the industry, he worked for Voestalpine Linz and Donawitz, Böhler Edelstahl Kapfenberg, as well as for ISCOR, the biggest steelproduction of Africa.
